Somewhat back up

Ok so Dis is back up and I'm working on getting the front page back up and the other blogs back up. Please wait patiently as I work my arse off. Thanks!

Boring, I know!

Yes, I know, the site looks so boring due to the fact that there's no amazing layout. I have a layout created, but I may not use it. As for the other blogs, I have to wait until I get my laptop back in order to redo their layouts. The actual files that contain this information, I believe, is encased on it.

I thought I had saved them off of here, but now that I think about it all I did was copy the files as they are. I thought about uploading the index/css/etc files and replacing them, but I know that when the blog gets rebuilt that it'll be overridden with whatever the templates say. So it will take a bit of time before I get them worked out, and this time I will save the templates. (You would think I'd have done that previously with all the issues I've had in the past, but no, I apparently didn't learn a damn thing.)

The job hunt still continues. I am getting an A in database, woohoo me, and the Little Lady is doing great in school - As and Bs for her, too.

Ok, so I basically just wanted to post to let people know I am still breathing. And eventually that the blogs will all once again have some color to them. Laters.

Note to Layout Designers for the New Styles

I really like Movable Type, even with all the issues I've had with it over the years. I really do. I love the fact that the newer versions have this thing called StyleCatcher that lets you apply styles to the blogs in a matter of seconds (sometimes minutes). What I HATE about StyleCatcher is that the DESIGNERS are sometimes airheaded idiots.

Yes, that's what I said. AIRHEADED IDIOTS. Re-read that to get it through your head (I'm sure I'll get bitched at for this).

So anyway, these Airheaded Idiots are designing Styles and Layouts for four different types of blogs and, let me be honest, there are a few I think are really well done. There are also a lot that are boring. I don't like boring, so the few styles that I like I want to use without the need to go through the fracking CSS file to find out WHY the images aren't working, why the styles aren't applying, etc.

So these really intelligent designers (airheaded idiots) did something really fracking bright. Instead of naming the CSS file what they put in the base-weblog.css file they named it something different. That's right! THEY NAMED IT SOMETHING ELSE!

Ok, I know I am not the brightest freaking person on the block (Getting As and Bs in Web Design!) but I know that if I want to link to a file for my style sheet I better know what the frack I named it.

So this style here that I have applied is called Tropical Dream. Pretty isn't it? In the CSS template for this blog it states the name of the css file being tropical_dream, yet when I look in the FOLDER where the THEME is located, the name of the file is (drumroll please) STYLES.CSS!!!

Obviously you can see how this would create an issue with the link between the StyleSheet and the Blog.

Now I want to make it PERFECTLY CLEAR that this theme is not the only one I have had problems with! I have had problems with many themes that I have tried to use, those include: ShadowDancers, Espresso @ Midnight (currently showing on braindead), Bamboo Dream, Oriental Dream (the sidebars never showed up) and several more since the whole StyleCatcher thing emerged from the getgo.

Here's the note I want to provide to the future generations of individuals and groups that are going to design such StyleCatcher layouts. Watch where you put your files. If you are going to put your image files in an image folder, make sure you indicate that in the image links on the stylesheet (I refuse to go through and replace every single thing, so I simply REMOVE the images folder altogether and upload the images into the THEME folder) and make sure that you name your fracking files what they are supposed to be. If the name of your theme in the base-weblog.css file is going to be My_Theme.css then name the style sheet My_Theme.css. That REALLY isn't difficult.

So let's get rid of the idiotic airheads and get some designer geniuses, ok? Ok. In the words of Wichi, because I think he'd agree that this is a form of laziness - LAZINESS HAPPENS!

Warranty Suck

I forgot to mention that the place that was going to fix my laptop called. Apparently there is some liquid that got into the laptop and therefore they are sending it back unrepaired. I don't know if this means the power cord/ac adapter unit as well since it was faulty and broke when unplugged from the laptop, but we'll see. I have a feeling that liquid got into the laptop because we have a kitty, and I won't mention his name, that likes to spill things and usually my laptop was either on or under the coffee table.

Then again, the little lady tends to spill when she doesn't watch where she puts her feet when she decides she wants them on the table as well.

Anyone wish to donate sippy cups, please contact me at....... heh.

So I should be getting the laptop back tomorrow and hopefully with a new cord, because if I have to go through getting another new cord from them due to the fact that they sent me a faulty one and I NOTED IT ON THE PAPERWORK I'm going to be extremely upset. Extremely.

So if they do send me a new cord and I continue to have issues with the laptop, I hope to talk my Honey into opening it up and taking a look at it.

Anyway. I am off for now.

An Amazing Person

Now those who know me, and you know who you are, know that I, in general, dislike people. It comes with the territory of my life history and getting sick of being screwed over in general, but now and then I come across an amazing person or two.

I've been tramping around all night, and let me tell you where I've been.

I've been thinking of attempting a blog that actually earns money and therefore I started to do research into how I could make this a possibility, even if it were only enough to say... put gas in the car, give the Little Lady lunch money.. buy the man a deck of Magic: The Gathering Cards, whatever. You understand.

Well, I've been inspired this evening, it's quiet, the Little Lady is in bed, the Honey is visiting his buddies and playing MTG (possibly just hanging out) and so I got to sit down and do the research regarding getting paid to blog. Since I am having issues finding a job close to home (I'm either over-qualified or extremely under-qualified) and haven't had a lot of luck I thought getting paid to blog might have something for me. I've seen several bloggers earning money with their posts. I've even thought of creating a new blog for doing so (I would like to keep Dis completely to myself) and what the hell...

So as I'm running rampant and looking over videos and terms of service agreements and FAQs and bloggers that get paid, etc. I run across this lovely woman: Tina Silva. Not only is she going to school for Office Administration but she also blogs like hell and gets paid for it, plus she has a life. I admire her. She's made a living of a passion that she has with blogging, used her passions in writing and photography to further her passion with writing and earned money to pay her bills, have money put aside and have a life, too. I find Tina to be an inspiration to me. Here are links to a couple of her sites:

A Woman's Diary;
Tina Silva's Blog;
Chaotic Mess. Org

If you decide to go through her list of sites you'll find absolutely different layouts, all colorful and easy to navigate as well. She's got a knack for writing what she feels and gives excellent information about whatever the paid for posts are regarding.

I'm sure there's a few of you out there that will enjoy going through her list of sites as much as I did!

Erhm

So for some reason a redirect I had put on ages ago took place immediately tonight and then the servers at the host went down. Odd happening or coincidence? Heh. I'll never know. They got the servers back up, I took the redirect off. All fixed.

I think I'll go to bed now. Oh yeah, All As again last week! Whooowheeeee!

MTG, Cleaning, Homework, The Usual

So Honey has been trying to teach the Little Lady and I Magic The Gathering. It's a little frustrating for me since I haven't ever played a game like it, but the child seems to be getting the hang of it. He's got a ton of cards so we don't have to spend any major amounts of money to get together a collection, which is good since we don't have major amounts of money.

(Currently his kitty, Dusty, is tearing around the house like a bat out of hell, if I had batteries in my camera I'd be recording it because it's funny as hell!)

So I got today's homework done, I got one load of dishes done, I'm going to work on another load shortly, I've gotten two loads of laundry done and more to do.

We've got some errand running to do later. I know we plan to get meal worms for Jack (Jack says YUM) and crickets. I wanted to make iced tea today, so I've got to get that started, but I have to wash the pitcher it is going in first.

I am off.

Slacker

Since AIM Radio/AOL Radio and Yahoo Launchcast don't want to work on this computer at all for me, I've taken to searching for a new thing. I tried MSN's Pandora and it doesn't work when I login, it just sits there and (if it had eyes) looks at me stupid-like.

I gave up on ever having music (unless I wanted to load a bunch on the computer from cds, which I didn't) because AIM will completely freeze up, it's ridiculous! Launchcast will completely quit working audio-wise, it keeps showing the songs it's playing, but there's no sound, and then it stops showing what songs altogether.

So finally I gave up on all of those and I really needed some music so I started searching for free internet radio (hoping I'd find something that worked!) and found Slacker. Yes, you read right, Slacker!

Slacker.Com has free internet radio and while listening to it I only experienced one error, there was possibly something wrong with a song file while I was doing dishes, but in order to get everything working again all I had to do was skip the song.

The best part about Slacker is that I am able to choose the bands that I want to hear and they play that music! Yep, they play what *I* want to hear. Launchcast throws in a bunch of nobodies and songs that I have no interest in hearing in between songs that I want to hear. And I literally have to block and skip anywhere from 3 to 10 songs before hearing something I want to hear. Then after that song is done, I have to go through it again. That's a real waste of time for me.

AIM/AOL Radio doesn't give you the option to skip, period. You can switch to another station which then takes forever to load, and then AIM freezes.

Slacker let me create my login and name the bands that I wanted to hear. The site brought up a list of bands in the same genre of the ones I entered so I could click on other bands that I wanted to hear.

The entire time I was listening to Slacker yesterday I didn't have to skip any songs, unless I wanted to. I could listen to my station that I created commercial free and without having to deal with a ton of songs I didn't want to hear.

Anyway, I think I found the new place where I'll be listening to music. For Free. Laters!

List

Ok so I haven't done much on my to-do list at all today but that will change. I'm working on it, things are getting done, just much slower than I really want them to, but that's ok. Take the time to get it right the first time, this way there's no need to waste time on it later.

Honey is going to make a box for the Magic cards. They are everywhere. They take up two shelves on his side of the bookcase, they are on the dining room table, which is now in the living room, they are on the coffee table, too. The decks that are made keep getting slightly messed up because they keep getting knocked over a few cards at a time. My shirt was catching on them yesterday.

So we've gotten a few things done. We've moved the bed to its new location. My dresser has been moved to my side of the bed. Honey's dresser made it into the bedroom and we both have nightstands. I've never had a nightstand. It's nice even if Dusty does tend to sleep on it or sit on it and play with the blinds while I try to sleep. We've allowed him into the bedroom again. It keeps him from clawing at the door and crying while we are trying to sleep. As long as he keeps away from Jack's tank, then all is well.

Let's see. We moved the dining room table into the living room because we are going to turn the front room into an office type area. I supposed I should lay the apartment out so that people know what the heck I'm talking about.

When you enter the apartment, the first room you see is what I call the front room, the bathroom is out there and then there are double doors leading into the rest of the apartment. The double doors are great because we don't have to worry too much about the cats getting out (although Dusty did make it up to the main house one night all by his lonesome).

Then after you enter through the double doors, you are in the living room. To the right is the entertainment center (tv, playstation 2, vcr, etc.) to the left is the bookcase. After them, the dining table, the coffee table and couch, then the door to the Little Lady's room. Straight through to the kitchen and then the door to our bedroom.

I know it doesn't sound crowded, but we have a ton of stuff. Honey is trying to make his media center work, so there are speakers in the living room that can't go into the entertainment center until he cuts out the bottom of the sections they are going in so that they sink into it. The speakers are too tall and that's why he has to cut out the bottom. Then there are the boxes of electronics, books, and all sorts of things that have to be given a true home. Hence, the creation of an 'office'.

Previously, the front room was an office. And since the Honey's desk is out there, then that is obviously a good start. We have to find my laptop a home because it doesn't want to stay powered, period. So we have to set it up and leave it sit there. I'm sort of un-thrilled about this because I enjoy sitting on the couch and doing things with it, but apparently it isn't to be so again. I will miss the freedom. I don't think I can talk my Honey into opening it up though. I'm sure he's afraid he won't be able to put it back together. I understand. Although I think HP would walk him through it if I asked them to. They wanted me to take apart the laptop and check the power connection myself until I asked them about my warranty. The warranty company won't fix it due to 'liquid damage' so I am stuck.

Even the Little Lady's computer might go into the office. It'll be a good way for us to keep an eye on what she's doing and who she's talking to, etc. Eventually, when he gets the time and we get the money, my Honey is going to build me a computer. Which rocks.

I did the dishes today. I've started dinner. I read several chapters yesterday and a couple today of my book. I have homework to do tomorrow so I'm going to be lazy today and work on that tomorrow in between laundry, dishes and picking up.

I'm still waiting on PayPerPost to approve my blog. No big deal, I can wait. We'll see what happens.

And that's about it. Laters.
