The principal at my daughter’s school just called me. It was really pleasant that she said Little Lady wasn’t in there because she caused trouble, but because there was an incident at lunch today. She then explained to me, very quickly (I didn’t get more than an uh huh and ok in there) and in detail as to what happened.
Some male student, who they have identified, was throwing fruit, such as apples, at students. There were three people hit, including my daughter, in such a way that they had to have some form of care. Right now I feel a little lucky that Little Lady feels fine and is going to continue her day at school, but she has an ice pack on her mouth because she was talking when she got hit and her teeth took a chunk out of the apple that hit her in the face.
I am wondering what the bruising is going to look like, although I hope it will be prevented since there was ice applied quickly. I explained to the principal that if there are any problems caused related to this incident I’d like to be able to have this wonderful male child’s parents pay for it (ie: any form of dental work). Little Lady assured the principal that her teeth weren’t loose and that she was mostly just feeling pain from where she got hit, but I plan to keep an eye on it and making sure that there won’t be any swelling or infections. (I didn’t think to ask if she had bitten her lip or cheek or not when I talked to her. Bad mommy!)
I was surprised that she wanted to finish her day at school, but then again, she is my daughter and knows that I’ve gone to work in pain, with some form of head cold, and the only thing that kept me home was the flu for two days.
The principal assured me that the consequences are going to be quite large against the student who did the fruit throwing, which I am assuming will be a week suspension at the most. I don’t think this would construe for expulsion, but hey, that’s just me. I’m mean and I’m intolerant of violence when it comes to schools.
It makes me wonder what the parents are going to do to punish their child when he gets home? I mean.. for something like this, where others were injured and may possibly incur some form of dental or medical costs? What do you do? Take away electronics of all kinds (cell phone, computer, television, etc), no after school avtivities and hell, I’d get a babysitter if I wasn’t able to be home when he gets there. What would you do?
